All visa applications from residents if you live within the jurisdiction of the Consulate-General of Japan in Melbourne (except some cases indecated in below*) need to be applied through the agencies accredited by Consulate-General of Japan, Melbourne.

*Visa application for cases below need to be applied directly by the applicants at Consulate-General of Japan, Melbourne.

  • What are the documents required for Japan visa?

    Required documents vary depending on the type of visa.
    You may find and download required documents through the Consulate-General of Japan,Melbounre web site below.

  • How long are Japanese visas taking?

    Typically, it takes 1-2 weeks to issue a visa, but this timeframe may vary depending on the type of visa and It generally takes longer if additional documents are required for further assessment.

    Short-term visa will be expired within 3 months after it is issued (single entry).
    Once you prepared all the required documents to apply for your visa,
    please let us know your preferred appointment date through our appointment form.

  • When can I apply for a visa?

    You may apply for a visa 3 months prior to entering Japan. Depending on your travel plan, please apply for a visa accordingly.
  • Who can apply for a visa through to HIS Melborune?

    All visa applications from residents in Victoria except cases indicated in below.

    Residents in TAS,SA and the western area from Ararat, northern area from Strathbogie and eastern area from Mansfield, South Gippsland in VIC.: Please contact Consulates-General of Japan in Melbourne.
    Residents in QLD,NSW,WA,NT and ACT.: Please contact the Embassy of Japan or one of the Consulates-General of Japan in your residence area.

    Applications need to be lodged in person except minors ages under 18 at the travel agencies accredited by Consulate-General of Japan, Melbourne.Applications will be lodged by the travel agencies to Consulate-General of Japan, Melbourne. Applicants will receive passport and visa from the travel agents.

    visa applicants must come in person to apply for visa. As an exception, the family member (Not friends or agents) can apply for a visa on behalf of the applicant with any documents showing the relationship as family, such as marriage certificate, birth certificate or an authorisation letter.
  • I live in SA/TAS/Remote area in VIC, How can I apply visa?

    ★The passport holder of visa fee exemption countries, such as Australia, New Zealand, USA, Korea, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Colombia and Pakistan.

    Applicants reside in a remote area can apply directly to Consulate General of Japan, Melbourne for a visa by mail will be accepted only from TAS, SA and the western area from Ararat, northern area from Strathbogie and eastern area from Mansfield, South Gippsland in VIC.

    The passport holder of NON visa fee exemption countries

    Once visa is ready, please e-mail (mel-in@his-oceania.com) us a request of collection with attached an Authorisation letter written and signed by the applicant.

    Our service fee for the collection is currently $132(inc. GST and registered postage)(Up to 2 passports).
    If you'd like to choose Express post delivery service with registered post (signature), additional $11.00 applies.

    We will provide you a trucking number upon we post you passport.

    I think it is very rare for passport to go missing in the mail.
    However please understand that we cannot guarantee of this issue.
