FAQ

  • What are the documents required for Japan visa?

    Required documents vary depending on the type of visa.
    You may find and download required documents through the Consulate-General of Japan Melbounre web site

  • How long does the visa process time take?

    Typically, visa processing takes 1–2 weeks, depending on the type of visa. It may take longer if additional documents are required. Please also be aware that all visa applications are subject to review and final approval by the Consulate-General of Japan.

    H.I.S. cannot guarantee when the visa will be issued or provide any specific timeframe. 

  • When can I apply for a visa?

    Most visas are valid for three months from the date of issue.

    Please apply for a visa at an appropriate time according to your travel plans.

  • Who can apply for a visa through to HIS Melbourne?

    All visa applications from residents in Victoria except cases indicated in below.
    -Diplomatic or Official Visas
    -Visas for invitees directly by the Japanese government and independent administrative agencies of Japan
    -Visas for awardees of Japanese Government Scholarship
    -Entertainment visa applicants apply by a team (bulk applications such as a team member of 10 people or more.)

    Applications need to be lodged in person except minors ages under 18 at the travel agencies accredited by Consulate-General of Japan, Melbourne. Visa applicants must come in person to apply for visa.

    Residents in TAS,SA and the western area from Ararat, northern area from Strathbogie and eastern area from Mansfield, South Gippsland in VIC.
    > You can either use HIS Melbourne in person or apply directly to Japanese Consulate in Melbourne by post.

  • How much dose a Japan visa service fee?

    Visa Fees

    Service Fee：

    Our service fee is $132 per applicant (non-refundable).

     

    Visa Application Fee：

    Applicants from visa-exempt countries such as Australia, New Zealand, USA, Malaysia, Colombia, and Russia etc. do not need to pay a visa fee.

    For others, starting April 1, 2025:

    Single Entry Visa (except Indian passport holders): $30 per applicant

    Multiple Entry Visa (except Indian passport holders): $60 per applicant

    Single or Multiple Entry Visa (for Indian passport holders): $8 per applicant

    Japan currently allows short-term visa exemptions for 74 countries/regions, including Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK, and Singapore.

     

    Payment:

    Payment can be made by cash or credit/debit card (a 2% fee applies for card payments).

  • I live in SA/TAS/Remote area in VIC, How can I apply for visa?

    Applicants residing in remote areas are eligible to submit their visa applications by post.
    This option is only available to residents of Tasmania , South Australia or remote areas of Victoria - West of Ararat, North of Strathbogie, as well as Mansfield and South Gippsland.

    If you would like to use our service, prepare all the documents first then please submit the JAPAN VISA Request Form.

    Once we receive your request, we will send you detailed instructions by email.

    You will need to send us all the required documents, including your original passport, by post. Payment is also required in order to proceed with your application.We are sending a payment link as well. 

    Our handling fee is AUD 132 per applicant + Visa fee(if you need) and once the visa is issued, we will return your passport and visa via Registered Express Post, which costs AUD 33. In addition, a 2% card surcharge will be applied.
    Once your visa is ready, we will return your passport and visa to you by post.
     

  • Do I need to buy a travel insurance to apply for a visa?

    To apply for Digital Nomad visa, you must have insurance against death, injury and illness during your stay in Japan (the amount of compensation for medical treatment due to injury or illness must be at least 10 million yen), and you must submit the insurance certificate or other documents you have purchased at the time of application.
    Designated activities:Digital Nomad, Spouse or Child of Digital Nomad Visa

    For other categories of visa, it is not mandatory to have travel insurance, but if you happen to use a medical institution during your stay in Japan, you may be able to avoid incurring expensive medical expenses if you have insurance.
