We are official Japan Visa Accredited Agency by Consulate-General of Japan in Melbourne. We can frequently accommodate your earliest available date for lodging your Visa application.

Appointments are only available to residents of Victoria, Tasmania, and South Australia.

Visa applications for 2024 will close on December 16th.
In 2025, appointment scheduling will begin on January 2nd.

However, please note that the Japanese Consulate in Melbourne
will start accepting visa applications from January 6th,
so even if you schedule an appointment on January 2nd or 3rd, the actual submission of your application documents to the consulate will not be possible until after January 6th.

Single-entry short-stay visas can be applied for up to ３months in advance. Given that appointments are expected to be crowded and the Consulate-General of Japan in Melbourne typically ceases visa application processing for the year in mid-December, we recommend that anyone planning to travel to Japan during the year-end holiday period submit the visa applications as early as possible.

  • What are the documents required for Japan visa?

    Required documents vary depending on the type of visa.

  • How long does the visa process time take?

    Typically, it takes 1-2 weeks to issue a visa, but this timeframe may vary depending on the type of visa and It generally takes longer if additional documents are required for further assessment.

    Short-term visa will be expired within 3 months after it is issued (single entry).
    Once you prepared all the required documents to apply for your visa,
    please let us know your preferred appointment date through our appointment form.

  • When can I apply for a visa?

    You may apply for a visa 3 months prior to entering Japan. Depending on your travel plan, please apply for a visa accordingly.

  • Who can apply for a visa through to HIS Melbourne?

    All visa applications from residents in Victoria except cases indicated in below.
    -Diplomatic or Official Visas
    -Visas for invitees directly by the Japanese government and independent administrative agencies of Japan
    -Visas for awardees of Japanese Government Scholarship
    -Entertainment visa applicants apply by a team (bulk applications such as a team member of 10 people or more.)

    Applications need to be lodged in person except minors ages under 18 at the travel agencies accredited by Consulate-General of Japan, Melbourne. Visa applicants must come in person to apply for visa.

    Residents in TAS,SA and the western area from Ararat, northern area from Strathbogie and eastern area from Mansfield, South Gippsland in VIC.

  • How much dose a Japan visa service fee?

    Our service fee is $132.00 per applicant (it is non-refundable) + Visa application fee (Depends on your nationality and the type of visa applied for)

     Visa application fee is applicable with following 

    ◆The passport holder of visa fee exemption countries such as Australia, New Zealand, USA, S.Korea, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Colombia and Pakistan etc will be free, (Please check the visa exempt countries list to find out if your visa fee is waived)

    ◆Single Entry (except Indian passport holders) : $32.00

      Multiple Entry Visa (except Indian passport holders) : $65.00

      Single Entry visa or Multiple Entry visa for Indian Passport holders : $9.00


    ※Japan has taken measures on the visa exemption arrangements for Short-Term Stay for 71 countries/regions
    such as Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK, Singapore etc.

  • I live in SA/TAS/Remote area in VIC, How can I apply for visa?

    Applicants reside in a remote area can apply directly to Consulate General of Japan, Melbourne for a visa by mail will be accepted only from TAS, SA and the western area from Ararat, northern area from Strathbogie and eastern area from Mansfield, South Gippsland in VIC.

    Once visa is ready, please e-mail (mel-in@his-oceania.com) us a request of collection with attached an Authorisation letter written and signed by the applicant.

    Our service fee for the collection is currently $132(inc. GST and registered postage)(Up to 2 passports),
    Plus the visa application fee (Depends on your anationality and the type of visa applied for) 

    If you'd like to choose Express post delivery service with registered post (signature), additional $11.00 applies.

    We will provide you a tracking number upon we post you the passport.

    It is very rare for passport to go missing in the mail.
    However please understand that we cannot guarantee of this issue.  

  • Do I need to buy a travel insurance to apply for a visa?

    To apply for Digital Nomad visa, you must have insurance against death, injury and illness during your stay in Japan (the amount of compensation for medical treatment due to injury or illness must be at least 10 million yen), and you must submit the insurance certificate or other documents you have purchased at the time of application.

    For other categories of visa, it is not mandatory to have travel insurance, but if you happen to use a medical institution during your stay in Japan, you may be able to avoid incurring expensive medical expenses if you have insurance.
